The sounds of spring; hammers and birds!

If you’re waiting to add your guess to the Sebago ice-out pool, it may be that you’re a little late.  It’s positively balmy out there today.  Lake Auburn was declared officially ice-free on Monday, very early, so can we be far behind?  And if you’re having thoughts about some serious summer fishing, why not give Brooke a call?  He’ll be happy to show you where they’re biting!

We welcome and enjoy your comments on our blog.  They sometimes take a day or two to appear on the site, so if you have a remark to make and haven’t seen it here, you will shortly!  And don’t forget; we still have some great openings for 2010, so be sure and give Robyn and Scott a call for your reservation.  207-655-4524

Outsourcing loon surgery

September guest Don must be a true Mainer.  He arrived having packed his wood carving tools so he could do some preparations for an upcoming art event.  How fortuitous that he stayed in Loon (!) where this resident decoy–now named Louise–was in need of some repair.  So while we thought she could be fixed with a little trimming, he realized she would lose her authenticity without more detailed work, so he and his wife Suzanne packed her off to their home in Deer Isle from where she returned four months later with a new beak and fresh paint.  She had been carefully bandaged and wrapped, and now has returned to her home mantle in Loon cottage where she admires her new plumage and patiently awaits our first spring guests.

Thank you, Dr. Don!!!

There’s no place like home…

Our home, that is!  We had the opportunity to have a look at many extraordinary, exotic and beautiful travel destinations during our participation in last weekend’s Boston Globe Travel Show.  And while we are all travelers and enjoy any chances to explore new places, we are always so pleased to come home to our places right here in Maine.  Whether your preference is for the ocean, or for Sebago Lake, click your heels together three times AND call for your 2010 reservation!

One with nature at Migis Lodge on Sebago Lake

To catch one, one must become one with the environment in which one’s heart’s desire resides…….at least, I THINK that’s what he said.  Phil’s getting ready for ice fishing, so he decided to check out their digs before he went out!  Yikes!!!!!

Maybe not today, but…………..

“First boat leaves main dock at noon.”  This weekly announcement heralds the launch of a favorite time honored adventure at Migis Lodge, our Wednesday island steak cookout.  Mmmm————filets on the grill, potatoes and onions, corn on the cob, watermelon and ice cream———-after you’ve rinsed your fingers in the lake, will you paddle back?  Make plans with someone for a tennis match later?  Take a ride on the Tykona?  Have a long swim in Sebago?  Put your feet up for a good book and a nap?  The wardrobes may have changed, but the pleasures of a Migis afternoon are still a summer highlight.

Have you spoken with Robyn and Scott about your 2010 reservation?

What color is YOUR tape?

img_4906img_4909img_4910A visit to World Headquarters in Portland recently found Robyn and Scott hard at work sorting out your requests and lining up confirmations.  If you haven’t been in touch with them yet about your 2010 stay, now is the time to make your plans.  Give them a call at 207-655-4524 or email migis@migis.com and you too could soon be looking good in reservation red!

Trail improvements are continuing

‘these are stayed neither by snow nor rain nor heat nor darkness from accomplishing their appointed course with all speed’

Wow, these gentlemen work quickly in these wintery conditions, enhancing the other seasons for the rest of us! Good work, guys.  Making a beautiful walk even better.

Silence is Golden………..

…………and so is November at Migis Lodge.  A walk around the now closed-for-the-winter property is a silent and golden experience.  Leaves have fallen, motorboats have left the lake, pine needles have dropped, and the sky is open to the bright late fall sun.  The quiet is broken only by our feet, walking through the mild rustling of the dry oak and maple leaves.

We enjoy these moments, while looking forward to the sounds of waterskiiers, kids at the playground, the ringing of the lunch cookout bell at 12:30, tinkling of glasses in the dining room.

Soon it will be time to call Robyn and Scott about your 2010 reservation!

White uniforms, red ties and roots.

It would seem you can go home again, after all.  Whether searched on Google Maps, or learned from a fellow at a rickety gas station, all roads lead to Migis.  Listen as Bobbie tells us how a trip down the Migis Lodge driveway can be deliberate—or serendipitous!
