Almost twelve hours since the solstice came and went. Suddenly, summer is upon us. Sailboats, sauvignon blanc, salads, sunscreen, skis, strawberry shortcake, sandals, sushi, swimsuits, sauna, sunsets, stars and stripes, s’mores—————sultry afternoons suitable for siestas. Sebago!
Quiet here in the office, but plenty of activity afoot. Tim is helping out in the laundry, Ian is working on the railing around the dining room deck, Jed is arranging training for new staff. Willow has been here planting on this cool, sparkly day and Joan is figuring out when she can get the painters into Sunset. Sarah is on the phone with our transportation partners, and Robyn is especially focused, putting the finishing touches on Julia and Andrew’s upcoming weekend wedding plans and labeling that folder ready!
Colby has ushered out the last of an annual corporate group, accountants from Portland. We’re always pleased to welcome their June event and to hear their satisfaction with the meeting arrangements, meals, boat rides, accommodations. “See you next year, Colby!”
Wandering down to the venerable swing that Gene and Grace Porta installed in 68, I wonder how many marriage proposals have taken place there. AND I just waded into the lake! Come on in; the water’s fine! I dove in over the weekend; my first dive of the summer on Saturday afternoon, followed by another for good measure on Sunday morning at 7. There’s nothing like that first dive of the year–I do love it, though I’m not as adventurous as Phil was back in, when, March?

A quiet day here after a busy weekend! The Barn at Cry of the Loon opened for the season with lots of interesting new merchandise. Our brother chef Bryan up at the Inn at Ocean’s Edge http://www.diningattheedge.com/ shared a recipe on New England Cable Television yesterday. We said goodbye to Anna and Owen after their beautiful Memorial Day weekend wedding (I particularly liked their place cards, made up on a typewriter–we all have our favorite details!). The guy from the fireworks company stopped by to confirm our show right here at the main dock July 3. What else? A light rain is falling on our thirsty plant life, and Willow is out tending to the gardens. A new finish is being applied to the dining room floor. Robyn is updating her next couple of wedding folders, and Sarah is fielding reservation phone calls. Jeanie is choosing a new carpet for the wellness center waiting area–and I think I’ll run down to Lake House and take a few pictures. Care to come along?
Still some nice openings; give us a call! 207-655-4524
…but none quite so gloriously testifying to the turning season than the arrival of our aptly named Willow! She’s busy turning that earth and planting and refreshing and just making us know that the new season is here. Meanwhile, job applicants roll in and out, wellness center rehab nears completion, Chef John and Charity and Belinda are venturing into the kitchen and putting on their aprons…won’t be long now!
might not fully realize what it means to see our thermometer at this level on April 2! To be able to walk about in a t-shirt enjoying the sounds and sights of spring is such a pleasure. This is a day full of new life, new projects, new staff interviews, and familiar faces appearing to see, well, what’s new! Have you met Eldren? I interrupted him having his lunch in his truck—————he’s busy turning on the water all over the property, as he has for 26 years now. He must have been in junior high school when he started!
Earlier today, the bearded one and myself took an eight mile walk to benefit the Casco and Raymond food pantries. Perfect day for it.
Robyn is hearing more and more from the spring bridal parties; only a month until the first. She is still ready to take your 2010 reservation calls as well!
If you’re waiting to add your guess to the Sebago ice-out pool, it may be that you’re a little late. It’s positively balmy out there today. Lake Auburn was declared officially ice-free on Monday, very early, so can we be far behind? And if you’re having thoughts about some serious summer fishing, why not give Brooke a call? He’ll be happy to show you where they’re biting!
We welcome and enjoy your comments on our blog. They sometimes take a day or two to appear on the site, so if you have a remark to make and haven’t seen it here, you will shortly! And don’t forget; we still have some great openings for 2010, so be sure and give Robyn and Scott a call for your reservation. 207-655-4524
Our home, that is! We had the opportunity to have a look at many extraordinary, exotic and beautiful travel destinations during our participation in last weekend’s Boston Globe Travel Show. And while we are all travelers and enjoy any chances to explore new places, we are always so pleased to come home to our places right here in Maine. Whether your preference is for the ocean, or for Sebago Lake, click your heels together three times AND call for your 2010 reservation!
To catch one, one must become one with the environment in which one’s heart’s desire resides…….at least, I THINK that’s what he said. Phil’s getting ready for ice fishing, so he decided to check out their digs before he went out! Yikes!!!!!
February 12, and another sparkling, glorious day at Migis Lodge on Sebago Lake. The guys are working on the Sunfish docks, rebuilding and replacing, so when you come down for your morning sail or a little cruise in a motor boat a few short months from now, you may notice improvements under your bare feet. Today is the day to be doing this work! It is almost indescribably beautiful, nearing 40 degrees and quiet enough so that we can almost hear the fish under the ice.
Robyn and Scott have been busy confirming reservations with lots of folks. Are you among them?
Who recalls our staff talent shows of years past? Tim Porta (in dashing top hat) has moved up in the theatrical world and recently trod the floorboards at Portland Stage’s annual production of A Christmas Carol. A walk-on, to be sure, but who knows what glories the future may hold?
On this last day of 2009, along with our own Tim, the Migis Hotel Group wishes one and all a happy and prosperous 2010, and…….
