Back by popular demand!

Wow, this summer of glorious weather and fine times is speeding by.  Took a moment yesterday to say hello to Gail, and to think again about our favorite spots at Migis Lodge!

This is the Best Day Ever………………!

That’s one of Scott’s bylines, and no matter how many days he says it, it’s true!  What a beautiful summer we’re having.  The water temperature in crystal clear Sebago Lake is perfect for jumping in after Lisa’s pilates class this morning, and the skiers and wakeboarders are improving their skills by the minute.  And what’s that mystery paddlewheeler out there?  Last night’s cocktail party saw renewal of old friendships and the beginnings of new ones.  So great to see Jackie and Judy again!  And lining up a family of eighteen for a family picture; all the wiggling is part of the fun.  Sadie was feeling left out last night so got into the middle of the action.

And this amazing parade of kids!  Climbing and hunting and face-painting–the hardest decision sometimes is whether to go in for that late day swim and have that facial art rinse away.  The teenagers, too, have been hard at it with capture the flag, their own tie-dying creations, and challenging scavenger hunts (“Where’s Wayne?  Where’s Wayne?”).

Stopping by the front desk for a chat with Deets and a preliminary study of tonight’s dinner menu is another daily stop for many, as is taking a little light reading out to the terrace.  Hear that hammer?  Ian is converting Ye Old Phone Booths to storage for our growing apparel collection.  Have you done your Migis shopping yet?  The kids are off shopping, via Tykona cruise, for candy.  Parents are relaxing with a massage in the new wellness center.  This, indeed, is the Best Day Ever!

Time to go.  I’d like a refreshing dip today myself…………………

The longest day, and lovelier by the minute

http://news.nationalgeographic.com/news/2010/06/100621-summer-solstice-2010-first-day-of-summer-longest-year-science/?source=link_tw06212010c

Almost twelve hours since the solstice came and went.  Suddenly, summer is upon us.  Sailboats, sauvignon blanc, salads, sunscreen, skis, strawberry shortcake, sandals, sushi, swimsuits, sauna, sunsets, stars and stripes, s’mores—————sultry afternoons suitable for siestas.  Sebago!

Migis walkabout

Quiet here in the office, but plenty of activity afoot.  Tim is helping out in the laundry, Ian is working on the railing around the dining room deck, Jed is arranging training for new staff.  Willow has been here planting on this cool, sparkly day and Joan is figuring out when she can get the painters into Sunset.  Sarah is on the phone with our transportation partners, and Robyn is especially focused, putting the finishing touches on Julia and Andrew’s upcoming weekend wedding plans and labeling that folder ready!

Colby has ushered out the last of an annual corporate group, accountants from Portland.  We’re always pleased to welcome their June event and to hear their satisfaction with the meeting arrangements, meals, boat rides, accommodations.  “See you next year, Colby!”

Wandering down to the venerable swing that Gene and Grace Porta installed in 68, I wonder how many marriage proposals have taken place there.  AND I just waded into the lake!  Come on in; the water’s fine!  I dove in over the weekend; my first dive of the summer on Saturday afternoon, followed by another for good measure on Sunday morning at 7.  There’s nothing like that first dive of the year–I do love it, though I’m not as adventurous as Phil was back in, when, March?

I just had to go look!

I took a call today from Elaine about her upcoming reservation, and she was so enthused about the fireplace where she stayed last year that I just had to go and look up her accommodation.  She’s so right!  That fireplace in Gray Gull I is fascinating, full of glittery bits and surprises poked in among the larger fieldstones.  Shown here are pictures of the fireplace, and a picture OF a picture of the fireplace, gentleman fishers and all.

And of course I do believe (I’d better check) it’s the oldest on the property, going back to 1916.  Gray Gull I and II evolved out of Green Camp, which was the original main lodge here at Migis.  The common living room was the gathering spot for the eight sleeping rooms that shared it.  One of my favorite bedrooms is here, too, tiny and cozy and made for piney dreams.

Give Scott and Robyn a call at 207-655-4524; we may have those perfect Maine vacation dates you’re hoping for!

So much to enjoy and learn on Earth Day

Rake Week 1

Picture 1 of 13

It does look something like an incipient lady slipper, but I don’t quite think it is.  Described as rare, and vulnerable.  Soon I will know!  And, is this a young white pine reaching for the sky?  On the way in to work this morning, I pulled over to admire first fiddleheads of the year.

Spring bRakers are working hard, today making their way up the road towards the Cry of the Loon.  59 and quite sunny; a good day to be outdoors.  And inside, the gold leaf paint came out for a little retouching on the Old Masterpiece of  Route 302.  I think I’ll take another little foot tour and see what’s going on on the paths winding through Migis.

Have you had a look at 2010’s Spring Tonic?  viewable at http://migis.com/efamily; just click on that cute little envelope!  Or if you’d like a paper copy, give us a call at 207-655-4524 and we’ll get one right out to you.

Many signs of spring…

…but none quite so gloriously testifying to the turning season than the arrival of our aptly named Willow!  She’s busy turning that earth and planting and refreshing and just making us know that the new season is here.  Meanwhile, job applicants roll in and out, wellness center rehab nears completion, Chef John and Charity and Belinda are venturing into the kitchen and putting on their aprons…won’t be long now!

You folks from away

might not fully realize what it means to see our thermometer at this level on April 2!  To be able to walk about in a t-shirt enjoying the sounds and sights of spring is such a pleasure.  This is a day full of new life, new projects, new staff interviews, and familiar faces appearing to see, well, what’s new!    Have you met Eldren?  I interrupted him having his lunch in his truck—————he’s busy turning on the water all over the property, as he has for 26 years now.  He must have been in junior high school when he started!

Earlier today, the bearded one and myself took an eight mile walk to benefit the Casco and Raymond food pantries.  Perfect day for it.

Robyn is hearing more and more from the spring bridal parties; only a month until the first.  She is still ready to take your 2010 reservation calls as well!

Not exactly Noah’s ark…

…but if it were it would come in handy today.  The wind is howling out there, and the rain just keeps on coming!  Here, a few days ago, is our neighbor further west along 302, in Naples.  The Songo River Queen has been stylishly (basic black) wrapped for the winter and will emerge soon for another season of meandering up and down Long Lake.  We do have plenty to do (or not do as may be your preference) here at the Lodge, but now and then it’s pleasant to get out and see what else the Lakes Region has to offer!

Scott’s away this week, but Robyn will be happy to answer your reservation inquiries at 207-655-4524 or migis@migis.com.  And we are going to assume that this spring rain will make for a lush, flowery and green early summer!
