…but none quite so gloriously testifying to the turning season than the arrival of our aptly named Willow! She’s busy turning that earth and planting and refreshing and just making us know that the new season is here. Meanwhile, job applicants roll in and out, wellness center rehab nears completion, Chef John and Charity and Belinda are venturing into the kitchen and putting on their aprons…won’t be long now!
This day of celebrating All Things Green takes me outdoors for a walk in the glorious sunshine. Approaching 60 today here in South Casco!! One enjoyable pasttime I’ve found in the last few years, with or without kids in tow, is letterboxing. Have you heard of it? Increase your finds, or start a new hobby—you’ll find plenty of opportunities to practice this one here in the Lakes Region. And (what do you know?) even right here at Migis!
“LETTERBOXING is an intriguing pastime combining navigational skills and rubber stamp artistry in a charming “treasure hunt” style outdoor quest. A wide variety of adventures can be found to suit all ages and experience levels.”
Our home, that is! We had the opportunity to have a look at many extraordinary, exotic and beautiful travel destinations during our participation in last weekend’s Boston Globe Travel Show. And while we are all travelers and enjoy any chances to explore new places, we are always so pleased to come home to our places right here in Maine. Whether your preference is for the ocean, or for Sebago Lake, click your heels together three times AND call for your 2010 reservation!
Many of our crew are in Boston today getting ready to open the Boston Globe Travel Show (yes, open to the public!) and some of us are here at Home Base enjoying the beautiful day. Have a look!
To catch one, one must become one with the environment in which one’s heart’s desire resides…….at least, I THINK that’s what he said. Phil’s getting ready for ice fishing, so he decided to check out their digs before he went out! Yikes!!!!!
Who recalls our staff talent shows of years past? Tim Porta (in dashing top hat) has moved up in the theatrical world and recently trod the floorboards at Portland Stage’s annual production of A Christmas Carol. A walk-on, to be sure, but who knows what glories the future may hold?
On this last day of 2009, along with our own Tim, the Migis Hotel Group wishes one and all a happy and prosperous 2010, and…….
We have a hearty crew here at Migis, summer and winter. The onset of (almost) winter provides the time and focus for working on the checklist that we develop while we are open to you folks. Here Phil and Ian, Adam and Colby, and supervisor Winnie are moving ahead with trail improvements, making your summer walks through the woods even more enjoyable.
Why, that’s Ann, a very special Migis lady celebrating a very special birthday with family and friends. She’s still busy behind the scenes here (and sometimes in the Thick of the Scene!) helping us with bookkeeping and All Things Green. Through three generations of the Porta family, Ann has helped keep the magic in Migis Lodge. Happy Birthday, Ann!!! And you all will just have to guess, for now, which birthday.
After the long drive in the car, random thoughts. Did I remember all my stuff? Is my sister going to get there first? Do I need to work on my homework while I’m here? Can I get on Facebook in the lobby? Will we still dare to go swimming? Will my whole family be here tonight? What will the adults be wearing for the fancy dinner? Will the pine needles still be all rustly? Will there be new sitters with the little kids? Will I be able to find the Shoot the Moon ball?
Will my favorite place still creak creak when I get there?
Closing dinner at Migis Lodge has been, for many years, an occasion to shine for one more night before we put the Migis social season to bed for the winter. This year we honored our Pine Tree State home with a meal and setting paying homage to its beauty and creative strengths. Surrounded by stacked firewood and pine trees, at tables decorated with birch boughs and forest greenery, our guests enjoyed the gentle humor of special guest Tim Sample, followed by a meal featuring All Things Maine. We are so fortunate to live amid such abundance!
Kudos especially to florist Marcia Davis and executive chef John Strain for this memorable evening.
