Quiz; when is Indian pudding served?

Lynn chose a different career path after a couple of stints working at Migis in the 70s, but she still retains the memory of a couple of Very Important Details!

The angler’s angle

Gene’s favorite spot is just a little off campus.  Let him explain!

And these cousins, third generation Migis guests, have a variety of favorites.  It rather depends on the time of day; completely understandable!

View from the perch…

Really, she doesn’t have a PERFECT view from her perch, but Deets does get a pretty good sense of what is happening here on yet another beauty of a day on Sebago Lake!  A few moments of relative quiet here as almost all our guests have Tykonaed (or kayaked, or swum, or canoed…………) out to Millstone for island cookout lunch.  Breezy and sunny out there, water temperature about 70, air temp 86.  Does it get any better than this?  A few stayed for the comfort of the dining room.  Lobster roll, anyone?

A little walkabout yesterday found some kids picking blueberries, Sandy wakeboarding, a fierce pitcher firing them in to Dad, folks shopping the new women’s long-sleeved Ts, a teen reading, kids choosing colors for tie-dye, ladies chatting on the terrace, girls taking a boat out……………..and that is between meals!

Tonight after dinner?  Bingo!  How many cards would you like?  And I said it was relatively quiet here but now Deets is raising a ruckus about something.  I’d better go check and see if she has run out of M&Ms……………

This is the Best Day Ever………………!

That’s one of Scott’s bylines, and no matter how many days he says it, it’s true!  What a beautiful summer we’re having.  The water temperature in crystal clear Sebago Lake is perfect for jumping in after Lisa’s pilates class this morning, and the skiers and wakeboarders are improving their skills by the minute.  And what’s that mystery paddlewheeler out there?  Last night’s cocktail party saw renewal of old friendships and the beginnings of new ones.  So great to see Jackie and Judy again!  And lining up a family of eighteen for a family picture; all the wiggling is part of the fun.  Sadie was feeling left out last night so got into the middle of the action.

And this amazing parade of kids!  Climbing and hunting and face-painting–the hardest decision sometimes is whether to go in for that late day swim and have that facial art rinse away.  The teenagers, too, have been hard at it with capture the flag, their own tie-dying creations, and challenging scavenger hunts (“Where’s Wayne?  Where’s Wayne?”).

Stopping by the front desk for a chat with Deets and a preliminary study of tonight’s dinner menu is another daily stop for many, as is taking a little light reading out to the terrace.  Hear that hammer?  Ian is converting Ye Old Phone Booths to storage for our growing apparel collection.  Have you done your Migis shopping yet?  The kids are off shopping, via Tykona cruise, for candy.  Parents are relaxing with a massage in the new wellness center.  This, indeed, is the Best Day Ever!

Time to go.  I’d like a refreshing dip today myself…………………

The longest day, and lovelier by the minute

http://news.nationalgeographic.com/news/2010/06/100621-summer-solstice-2010-first-day-of-summer-longest-year-science/?source=link_tw06212010c

Almost twelve hours since the solstice came and went.  Suddenly, summer is upon us.  Sailboats, sauvignon blanc, salads, sunscreen, skis, strawberry shortcake, sandals, sushi, swimsuits, sauna, sunsets, stars and stripes, s’mores—————sultry afternoons suitable for siestas.  Sebago!

June is entering like a lamb

A quiet day here after a busy weekend!  The Barn at Cry of the Loon opened for the season with lots of interesting new merchandise.  Our brother chef Bryan up at the Inn at Ocean’s Edge http://www.diningattheedge.com/ shared a recipe on New England Cable Television yesterday.  We said goodbye to Anna and Owen after their beautiful Memorial Day weekend wedding (I particularly liked their place cards, made up on a typewriter–we all have our favorite details!).  The guy from the fireworks company stopped by to confirm our show right here at the main dock July 3.  What else?  A light rain is falling on our thirsty plant life, and Willow is out tending to the gardens.  A new finish is being applied to the dining room floor.  Robyn is updating her next couple of wedding folders, and Sarah is fielding reservation phone calls.  Jeanie is choosing a new carpet for the wellness center waiting area–and I think I’ll run down to Lake House and take a few pictures.  Care to come along?

Still some nice openings; give us a call!  207-655-4524

Whew!

It is such a fun time of year!  After all the meetings and planning sessions and lists and anticipation we are watching Robyn’s work come to fruition!  Wedding time; we have already had the pleasure of witnessing Alicia and Ryan, Miguel and Lindsay, as well as Alison and Jason start their married lives here on the shores of Sebago Lake.  A lot of staff, returning and new, have arrived and unpacked their bags and been put right to work.  The kitchen is turning out beautiful meals, as satisfying to look at as they are to eat.   Flowers are blooming, the housekeeping staff has polished away all vestiges of winter—we are ready and up and running!

Good thing Scott has been handy with his iPhone for a few pictures; others, so far, are being enjoyed by their subjects.  Send some along to migismary@live.com if you’d like to share!

Still some choice openings available for the season.  Give Robyn or Scott a call at 207-655-4524 to inquire about reservations.  And have a look at our new website; we’re not remodeling buildings only this year!

One with nature at Migis Lodge on Sebago Lake

To catch one, one must become one with the environment in which one’s heart’s desire resides…….at least, I THINK that’s what he said.  Phil’s getting ready for ice fishing, so he decided to check out their digs before he went out!  Yikes!!!!!

Maybe not today, but…………..

“First boat leaves main dock at noon.”  This weekly announcement heralds the launch of a favorite time honored adventure at Migis Lodge, our Wednesday island steak cookout.  Mmmm————filets on the grill, potatoes and onions, corn on the cob, watermelon and ice cream———-after you’ve rinsed your fingers in the lake, will you paddle back?  Make plans with someone for a tennis match later?  Take a ride on the Tykona?  Have a long swim in Sebago?  Put your feet up for a good book and a nap?  The wardrobes may have changed, but the pleasures of a Migis afternoon are still a summer highlight.

Have you spoken with Robyn and Scott about your 2010 reservation?
