We put an insulating wall up between the office and the Main Lodge living room during the winter, to preserve heat. When my son Tim was just beyond toddlerhood, we brought him in to the office one April day when we took down the wall. He was so astonished, and delighted……
“It’s back! Migis is back!”
He climbed up that one big step, walked through the living room and into the dining room, with all the wonder of the true explorer.
I had a sense of that today, walking around. Familiar shapes are arising from this winter of heavy snows and big storms. The firewood is once again visible, matted undergrowth is springing up, the cookout area is passable. Migis is back! It’s back! The temperature is not what we could call balmy, but it’s looking hopeful. This tree behind the office, near Raven, is one of my favorite harbingers of spring. No buds yet, but soon. Soon.
Colby and company have finished the majority of the restorations in Driftwood and Skylark. Nice new staircase on Drift; its twin is being constructed for Skylark. And how do you like the candy-cane shape of the custom trim Colby made to fit around the dressers? Nice touch.
Along to the other team today, over where Ian and Adam are moving the vast remains of pines that have been felled this winter. They transport them over to Brian from Sebago Custom Sawing who is handling them with a canthook and examining them with a metal detector (they’ll want to remove any surprises before the blades go to work) before planing and milling and eventually turning them into fireplace mantles and benches. Ian and he compared notes on tools and techniques; Brian found his own initials on some of the benches that already grace the grounds!
New life; here is Jed’s new little addition. I wonder how often little Fitz will leap around with Aunt (right?) Sophie this summer! And whatever will Deets think? That will be fun!
